Former “Home Improvement” heartthrob, Zachary Ty Bryan, finds himself behind bars once again. The 41-year-old actor was arrested on Friday in Oregon on charges of felony assault.
This is not the first time Bryan has faced legal troubles. Some may recall his 2020 arrest for assaulting his then-girlfriend, Johnnie Faye Cartwright, while he was still married to his now ex-wife Carly Matros. The incident resulted in Bryan pleading guilty to lesser charges of misdemeanor menacing and misdemeanor assault. However, Bryan didn’t mince words when discussing the previous arrest in a profile by The Hollywood Reporter, claiming the media had blown the situation out of proportion.
But it seems history may be repeating itself. TMZ broke the news that the police responded to a physical dispute at a residence in Eugene involving a male and a female. Though Zachary Ty Bryan was not present at the time of the police’s arrival, he was later apprehended and booked into jail. The identity of the other party involved remains undisclosed.

More On Zachery Ty Bryan Domestic Violence Charges
Bryan, who once played the eldest son Brad Taylor on the beloved TV show “Home Improvement,” has experienced a series of legal woes over the years. In 2020, he faced a DUI charge, which wasn’t his first run-in with the law regarding alcohol-related offenses. With past DUI arrests dating back to 2004, 2007, and 2017, his struggles with alcohol abuse have been well-documented.
Since stepping away from the limelight in 2009, Zachary Ty Bryan has candidly shared his challenges in dealing with the aftermath of childhood stardom. Despite making appearances in shows like “Burn Notice,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” and “Veronica Mars,” his acting career eventually took a back seat. The actor cited difficulties in finding work and grappling with alcoholism as reasons for his decision to leave Hollywood behind.
Bryan’s personal life also took a tumultuous turn, as he remained entangled in a rocky relationship with Johnnie Faye Cartwright. Despite the allegations of abuse and Cartwright’s claims of hair-pulling, punching, and choking, the couple is still together and even got engaged in 2021. They currently share three children, while Bryan has four children from his previous marriage.
As the news of his recent arrest unfolds, fans of the once-beloved star are left with mixed feelings of concern and curiosity about his future. It remains to be seen how the legal proceedings will unfold and how Bryan’s life will progress from this point on. For now, we can only hope that the actor finds the support and help he needs to overcome his challenges and move towards a better and healthier future.
