Chris Stapleton Shared His Political Opinion, And It Is Refreshing

Chris Stapleton’s political stance is likely the most classic country stance. During an interview with The GuardianStapleton was asked how he would vote in the quickly approaching presidential election.

He responded, “I’m voting for America and a good glass of whiskey.”

With tensions rising in this current political climate, artists like Taylor Swift and Jason Aldean are coming out to support their candidates. Stapleton says this is their right, but he has a different take.

Chris Stapleton’s Political Opinion

According to the singer:

“I’m not saying celebrities shouldn’t endorse people – that’s American. I also think the right to keep that private, and the right to let politicians be politicians, to let people make their own choices based on what politicians say and do … that’s American, too.”

Because celebrities have a lot of influence, many fans expect and want them to endorse a political candidate.

Stapleton rejects the notion that he must do anything because this is America, the land of the free.

He did, however, share what he does care about, which are American values; he described them as:

“…fairness and defending those who can’t defend themselves, or standing up for each other. About coming together, understanding points of view that aren’t yours. American values would be someone who grows up in the city getting to sit down and talk with somebody who didn’t, like myself. And then we can still find common ground.”

Stapleton also shared in the article that he grew up in Staffordsville, Kentucky, a small “three-stoplight” rural town. The singer saidThe Friday night football game was the big gathering of the week, then it was church on Sundays. That was kind of it.”

Now, he has eight Grammys, five #1 singles, and just appeared on the TODAY Show two weeks ago.

He is truly living the American dream. Watch his TODAY Show appearance below.
