Lainey Wilson knows the show must go on, even when things take an unexpected turn— like the time a fan in the audience spit on her during one of her shows.
Lainey Wilson Recalls Being Spit On By a Fan
During a recent interview on the Taste of Country Nights, On Demand podcast, Lainey Wilson was asked if she had ever experienced a wild moment during one of her shows. The “Hang Tight Honey” singer recalled an incident where someone in the crowd actually spit on her during a performance, and she explained how she handled the shocking situation.
“Last year, when we were on our headlining tour, when we were just on a club tour, somebody spit on me, on stage,” Wilson said. “I thought about getting down there and finding whoever it was but I didn’t. I kept rolling. I just kept rolling.”
“First of all, I was like, ‘Why in the world would you buy a ticket and then go spit on somebody?'” she continued. “But, also, there’s some mean people in the world. Also, they could have just been drunk and just being silly.”
One of the “weird” parts of the situation, according to Wilson, was that she actually saw the saliva coming her way, but it was too late to dodge it. Despite the unpleasant encounter, she remained professional and carried on singing.
“It was weird. I saw it, like, coming through the air. It was like I made eye contact with the spit and then it just like, lands on me and I’m just like ‘I got a heart like a truck,” she joked.
Thankfully, Wilson hasn’t had anyone spit on her since, but this wasn’t the only time she experienced an unplanned incident on stage.
Back in July, while headlining the Faster Horses Festival, Lainey Wilson had to step away from center stage during her set due to an unexpected wardrobe malfunction. Despite the hiccup, she handled it with her usual grace and humor, managing the situation like a pro.
“Y’all just about got a real show… a real show,” Wilson joked with a laugh to the crowd. “There’s a first time for everything, and I’m glad it was y’all that I split my pants wide open in front of. You can’t make that up… I’d have never known had my people back here not seen it.”
