Luke Bryan is an outdoorsman through and through, as evidenced by the fact that a lifelong health issue hasn’t kept him from doing what he loves.

In a recent interview with Audacy’s Katie Neal, Luke Bryan cleared up any rumors about why his eyes are often red by confessing that he has an allergy to bass.

“Just so we know, if I do any interviews and I look like I’ve been smoking pot? That’s not true. I’ve been catching bass,” the American Idol judge said.

“If I touch a bass, my eyes will get red. My hands will swell if I have to take a hook out … I’m like, I know I’m gonna fish today so I’ll take an Allegra.”

Luke added that he spent years not knowing that he was allergic to bass and spent hours fishing with his dad, suffering through the side effects.

“I’m in the back of the boat wheezing, in need of maybe like an EpiPen. We just thought it was allergies, like the trees, but it’s actually touching the bass.” Luke elaborated that his allergy wasn’t just to bass, but anything related to sun fish, like bream, shell cracker, and bluegill. “They wipe me out pretty good.”

The revelation comes after fans showed concern for Luke following a recent American Idol episode. Fans questioned why Bryan’s eyes were red and his hands appeared swollen, leading to the singer’s allergy confession.

Luke Bryan is determined to enjoy outdoor adventures, even if it hurts him.

The “Huntin’, Fishin’ and Lovin’ Every Day” singer often shares photos of himself enjoying everything the great outdoors has to offer. He is usually accompanied by his wife, mom, one of his sons, Bo (16) and Tate (13), or his nephew, Til (22).
