In August, Blake Shelton gave his fans the thrill of the summer when he announced he had agreed to participate in Luke Bryan‘s Crash My Playa festival in Mexico in January 2017. The four-night festival has featured headlining acts such as Florida Georgia Line and Dierks Bentley in the past. When it comes to 2017, Bryan will headline two shows himself, while Shelton will headline one.
Little Big Town, Randy Houser, and Dustin Lynch are among some of the other artists scheduled to perform at the festival, with more acts to be announced.
In an interview with Rare Country, Bryan expressed how surprised he was that Shelton agreed to take part in Crash My Playa. But he had an advantage that other people who try to book Shelton for festivals don’t…he knew Shelton’s personal phone number.
See, when festival operators want to try and book Shelton to perform they typically have to speak to all of his managers and agents. Even then, he still may not be able to participate since his own concerts and commitments for The Voice pack up his schedule.
But Bryan decided to jump over all of those steps and contact Shelton directly to see if he would do Crash My Playa. He called Shelton to plead his case, and was surprised at how easy it was to get him to say yes.
“I was like, ‘Man, I’d love for you to come down here and just do this thing and see if you like it.’ I called him, and he agreed to do it,” Bryan said.
However, Bryan didn’t get Shelton to agree to take part in Crash My Playa without offering him something in return. The only problem is, Bryan thinks he agreed to that condition by mistake.
“I think I may have accidentally agreed to do something for him,” he said.
Shelton and Bryan are actually good buddies and they were co-hosts at the ACM Awards for several years. So having the two of them together at the same festival is a recipe for hilarious things to come! Watch the clip below to relive one of their funniest moments together.
We’re just as surprised as Bryan that he was able to get Shelton to agree to Crash My Playa that easy, but we’re sure glad he did!
