Miranda Lambert is country music’s cover girl.
After recently gracing the cover of the very first country-themed issue of Cosmopolitan, she is now the cover story of Billboard‘s newest publication. She opened up to the music magazine and didn’t hold anything back.
From her divorce from Blake Shelton, to her double album The Weight of These Wings to her upbringing, nothing was really off limits and she did reveal something she’s extremely passionate about – the female voice in country music.
“You can print out any top chart, and you’ll see maybe a couple females, or not even one,” she said. “I’m thankful for my spot headlining festivals. I’ve worked for it — but I shouldn’t be on a whole show with no girls.”
While she thinks that the male-dominated country genre is “just a phase”, that doesn’t mean she is going to take it sitting down. Because of the position she is in, she believes it’s her job to help other women in her field.
“If I get a door kicked open, I want to hold it open for the girls coming behind me,” she told Billboard.
In 2015, she embarked on her Pink Guitars and Roadside Bars Tour with an all-female lineup to prove that she would stick to her word.
Another way she knows that the male domination of country music is just a phase is that she and her Pistol Annies bandmates Ashley Monroe and Angaleena Presley are reuniting for their third album, set for a 2018 release.
The trio hasn’t released new music since 2013 after suddenly cancelling all of their upcoming shows and fans are elated to hear that the spit-fire trio will be back together soon! In 2015, Monroe and Presley were special surprise guests on the aforementioned Pink Guitars and Roadside Bars Tour and she dropped a few hints about a possible reunion.
“We’ve been missing each other a lot,” Monroe told Fuse. “We have a lot of song ideas going. I feel like it’s soon.”
