Miranda Lambert’s Rescue Dog, Delta Dawn, “Crossed Over The Rainbow Bridge” A Few Weeks Ago

Miranda Lambert took to social media on Thursday (June 6) to share the sad news that her “once in a lifetime” dog, Delta Dawn, passed away in April.

The “Tin Man” singer seemed to imply that she recently lost another pet as well. She opened her post by writing:

“This is part 1 of a 2 part post about the power of a rescue and what they can do to a heart. In the last 6 weeks two of the best and most loyal friends I have ever had have left this earth.”

She said Delta Dawn was the first of her “loyal friends” she lost. The beloved pup “crossed over the rainbow bridge” on April 22, which just so happened to be Earth Day.

The following day (June 7), Lambert revealed that another one of her dogs, Louise, passed away on June 6. She rescued Louise and her sister, Thelma, in 2016 (Thelma passed away in 2023).

My Lou Lou polar bear. She loved it when I sang her ‘special songs’ to her,” Lambert said.

She Rescued Delta Dawn From A Sonic Restaurant In 2009

Lambert also shared the story of how Delta Dawn came into her life. She found the little dog at a Sonic restaurant nearly 16 years ago:

“She was one of those dogs that you only get once in a lifetime,” Lambert wrote. “I found her at a Sonic in Oklahoma in the spring of 2009. She was homeless and hungry but still full of personality. I opened my car door and she jumped in. Little did I know when I was trying to just get a cherry limeade, I would meet one of the most amazing dogs I would ever know. I had about 16 years with her and she was on almost every tour I’ve ever been on. I’m honored to have met her and learned so much from her.”

Lambert also shared a video containing photos and videos of Delta Dawn through the years. She set the tribute to the tune of the iconic Tanya Tucker song the sweet pup was named after.

Miranda Lambert Founded Her MuttNation Foundation The Same Year She Rescued Delta Dawn

Lambert is a strong advocate for pet adoption. Her personal experiences with her own pets, like Delta Dawn, have fueled her passion further.

I want yall to know that I’m an advocate for rescue because I live it out and everyday I am blessed with the joy of having these animals in my life,” she said. “And then some days, like today, I’m so heartbroken to have lost them. To love this big you have to hurt just as big. They are worth it.”

Lambert co-founded the MuttNation Foundation with her mom, Bev Lambert, in 2009, the same year she rescued Delta Dawn. The Foundation’s mission is “to promote the adoption of shelter pets, advance spay & neuter; and educate the public about the benefits of these actions.”

Tractor Supply Company partnered with Lambert to create a line of pet products called MuttNation Fueled By Miranda Lambert, which supports the Foundation. Delta Dawn appeared in several promotional videos and photos for the line, and you can watch one of those clips below.
