With the recent release of her album The Weight of These Wings, Miranda Lambert has had her plate full this holiday season. She’s been trekking across the country to perform her new songs on various television shows and specials, including the CBS broadcast of the Thanksgiving parade.
Apparently CBS thought that Lambert did a good job performing for the parade, because now they’ve invited her back to celebrate Christmas. It was just announced on Tuesday afternoon (December 6) that Lambert will serve as the headliner and host of CBS’ 18th annual A Home for the Holidays special.
According to the Dave Thomas Foundation website, A Home for the Holidays “shares stories of foster care adoption and features performances from some of America’s most popular musical artists.” In between the musical performances, the special features stories about families whose lives have been touched by adoption and foster care. In doing so, the special aims to raise awareness about such subjects.
One family whose story will be featured in the special is the Christensen Family from Los Angeles. The Christensens had only intended on adopting one child, but ended up adopting three siblings. They learned that the siblings faced potential separation in foster care, so they opened their hearts and their home to all three. Since the siblings share such a strong bond, they were happy to find a home together.
That’s just one of the touching stories you’ll hear in between watching Lambert and the other scheduled performers. Lambert is set to sing some of her new material off of The Weight of These Wings. With 24 songs on the album, we know she has a good selection to pick from. We can’t wait to hear what she decides to sing!
Two other performers have been announced for the special so far. The first is Canadian singer-songwriter Alessia Cara, known for her hit single “Here.” Singer-songwriter Rachel Platten was also announced as part of the lineup. After achieving fame with her hit single, “Fight Song,” Platten experienced further chart success with its follow-up, “Stand By You.”
The CBS press release states that other artists will be performing for the special as well. Perhaps they’ll invite another country artist to join Lambert?
A Home for the Holidays will air on December 23 on CBS. Be sure to tune in if you don’t want to miss watching Lambert perform! She did a great job during the CBS broadcast of the Thanksgiving parade, so we have no doubt she’ll shine on A Home for the Holidays.
