Morgan Wallen Had Previously Only Hinted At His Own Sobriety

“One day you’re gonna see my mugshot from a night when I got a little too drunk.”
– Morgan Wallen’s “Superman”

Last year, when Morgan Wallen was on comedian Theo Von’s podcast, This Past Weekend, he memorably stated, “I ain’t been in a bar since the last time I was in a bar, and everybody knows about it.”

He added, “It’s definitely the best thing for me.”

Of course, Morgan is referring to his second arrest, which happened in April of 2024 after he threw a chair from the roof of a bar in downtown Nashville, Tennessee. In December of that year, he pled guilty and had his felony charges of reckless endangerment reduced to misdemeanors.

Now, it’s been two years since his arrest, and we’re learning more about how Morgan is doing from a man who knows the country star very well: his own father, Tommy Wallen.

Tommy Wallen Reveals His Son Is Sober

Tuning in to Morgan Wallen Radio on SiriusXM, you may have heard a special word from his dad, Tommy Wallen.

Notably, Tommy is a pastor from Sneedville, Tennessee, and that upbringing is something that has informed his son, Morgan, in a big way. Listening to songs like “I Wrote The Book,” from Morgan’s 2023 album One Thing at a Time, it’s clear that Morgan has battled with his Christian responsibilities and the ways of the world.

On a recent segment of Morgan Wallen Radio, Tommy took a moment to speak about his son, saying:

“I’m Morgan’s dad, Tommy Wallen, bringing you ‘Family Tradition’ on ‘Morgan Wallen Radio’ on SiriusXM. Something that doesn’t relate to music or Morgan’s music that makes me really proud — again, there’s no question about this answer also — it’s his sobriety and the Dad he’s become”.

In 2020, Morgan became a father, as his ex-fiancée gave birth to their son, Indigo.

Tommy’s radio statement follows a lengthy letter that was shared to Morgan’s fans, in which he wrote of how Morgan had overcome an injury that “dashed any hope of him playing college baseball” and then was voted off Season 4 of The Voice in 2014 in pursuit of his next dream.

Tommy goes on to write, “But along Morgan’s journey, I’ve also seen how success doesn’t get rid of all your problems, no matter how big that success is. It takes a lot to admit that you might be one of those problems. I know because, at a tougher time in my life, I had to say the same thing to myself.”

Concluding his letter, Tommy wrote, “I’ve also seen a lot of people in that position, through my work as a pastor, at the moment they realize they may have ruined everything they’d worked so hard for. It’s what you do about those problems that really matters, though. I’m proud that Morgan has had problems in his life. If he didn’t, he wouldn’t be the man he is today. But I’m even more proud of what he’s done with them”.
