Team Adam’s Alexia Jayy Wins The Voice: Battle Of Champions

Congratulations are in order for Alexia Jayy and her coach, Adam Levine, because they just won Season 29 of The Voice!

Jayy earned a three-chair turn during the blind auditions for her cover of Aretha Franklin’s “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.” Since this season of The Voice only had three coaches, that meant that everyone turned around for Jayy.

Adam Levine was Jayy’s biggest champion from day one. He foreshadowed her eventual victory when he said:

You have that voice that motivates me even more to say, ‘You know what? This is the best voice in the competitionThis is what has to win…’ You’re one of the best we’ve ever seen.”

Levine’s faith in her talent inspired Jayy to choose him as her coach. That, and the fact that his band, Maroon 5, is her son’s favorite artist!

After the finale aired on April 14th, Access Hollywood shared a post-win interview with Alexia Jayy and Adam Levine. During their chat, Jayy revealed the unusual, two-word piece of advice Levine gave her during the competition.

Stay nervous,” she said as Levine laughed beside her. “Stay nervous ’cause it helps.”

Levine explained what he meant when he offered those unconventional words of wisdom.

She came to me like mid-season and she’s like, ‘Hey…what should I do about nerves?’ But I was like, ‘Honestly, just be nervous, because whatever is yielding these results is so spectacular…please don’t stop being nervous, because it’s a winning formula.'”

Jayy and Levine finally got the chance to publicly celebrate their victory after the finale on April 14th. They reunited that night at the Blue Note Jazz Club in Hollywood, where they spoke with NBC Insider.

During their conversation, the duo once again mentioned the unexpected advice Levine had to offer…and why it actually worked.

…there were little moments where she would be nervous, and she’s like, ‘How do I get out of my head?’ And I’m like, ‘Just keep doing what you’re doing,'” Levine recalled. “‘Don’t worry about winning because that’s not something you should concern yourself with. You should just do your best and see where it takes you.’

Jayy said that Levine’s reassurance that it’s okay to be nervous helped her a lot. It was exactly what she needed to hear in those moments.

I like things to be perfect, so I was in my head,” she remembered. “And so for him to tell me, ‘Hey, we all are all in our heads, but you’re going to go out there and you’re going to kill it. Tell yourself that and you’ll be fine.’ He was in my head like, just get out there and love singing.”

Jayy is showcasing her love for singing with her brand-new single, “Rent Free,” which she released the night of the Voice finale. You can watch its official music video below.

Congratulations to Jayy and Levine on their win! The Voice just confirmed that Levine will return to coach Season 30, so he’s already prepared to defend his title…
