This NASCAR Hall of Famer has just blown everyone’s mind with his unexpected entry for a full-time season in 2018.

Known for his seemingly-endless string of wins during his run in NASCAR‘s Cup Series, Bobby Labonte is making a return to full-time racing that nobody saw coming.

Announced earlier today, April 9th, 2018, Labonte will be finding his way back to the track for a series of races that he hopes will lead him to a championship again.

“If I didn’t enjoy this, I wouldn’t do this,” Labonte explained to NASCAR.com. “It’ll be fun to get back out on the race track with other cars, just like I did last year.”

Partnering with RDV Competition, Labonte will be taking up the wheel in their No. 18 Chevrolet – the same number he had for all 21 of his victories in NASCAR’s top series.

Now, the 53-year-old racing superstar will be dashing off to a number of other countries as he competes in NASCAR’s Whelen Euro Series. The opening race of the season will take place in Valencia, Spain this coming weekend (April 14th – 15th) and he will follow it up with five more throughout the summer.

NASCAR’s Sr. VP and Chief International Officer, Jim Cassidy praised Labonte for his return, saying that his “full-time involvement gives American fans an even stronger connection to the series, while offering our Europen fans a close look at one of NASCAR’s greats.”

Labonte hasn’t competed in a full-time series position since he left Go FAS Racing following the close of the 2016 Cup Series season.
