The Voice is mourning the loss of one of their most beloved contestants. Season 13 contestant Janice Freeman died Saturday at the age of 33.
A spokesperson for Freeman said that the singer had a severe case of pneumonia and that a blood clot had traveled to her heart. Freeman’s husband performed CPR until an ambulance took her to a local hospital, where she later died.
“A survivor and fighter, and a beautiful force in this world, Janice gained notoriety through her success on NBC’s ‘The Voice’ as a member of Miley Cyrus’ team,” the statement said. “Her story inspired fans nationwide, having successfully battled cervical cancer and living her life to the fullest while fighting lupus.”
Both Miley Cyrus and Jennifer Hudson responded to Freeman’s death with touching statements posted to social media.
Cyrus remembered her friend in a touching post to Instagram, saying, “Thank you @janicefreeman … for everything. This represents you perfectly,” Cyrus wrote on a picture of a rainbow.
In one of Freeman’s last posts to Facebook she addressed her pneumonia battle and shared a beautiful message of hope with her fans.
“I want to give ALL praises to THE FATHER for this healing process! It has been a difficult, trying, discouraging, mentally draining, etc last 3 months I have had to deal with in a very long time! But God is FAITHFUL and HE is healing my body and I’m starting to see a little clearly again!” Freeman continued, “I’m so grateful and overwhelmed because HE loves me so in spite of me deserving it or not….I want to leave this message with you all… God loves you so much and He’ll never walk away from you (you can walk away from Him). Thank you all so much for your continued prayers they have been keeping me! Remember you’re awesome, amazing, there’s only one you in this world….. ( You finish it!!!! ) I love you all.”
Our thoughts and prayers are with Janice Freeman’s husband, daughter, mother, and numerous loved ones and friends.
