The Voice is mourning the loss of one of their most beloved contestants. Season 13 contestant Janice Freeman died Saturday at the age of 33.

A spokesperson for Freeman said that the singer had a severe case of pneumonia and that a blood clot had traveled to her heart. Freeman’s husband performed CPR until an ambulance took her to a local hospital, where she later died.

“A survivor and fighter, and a beautiful force in this world, Janice gained notoriety through her success on NBC’s ‘The Voice’ as a member of Miley Cyrus’ team,” the statement said. “Her story inspired fans nationwide, having successfully battled cervical cancer and living her life to the fullest while fighting lupus.”
Freeman won the hearts of the Voice judges and viewers with her mind-blowing rendition of “Radioactive” by Imagine Dragons. Then-coaches Miley Cyrus and Jennifer Hudson turned their chairs for Freeman, with the singer ultimately choosing to join Team Miley. Cyrus took Freeman all the way to the Top 11 before she was eliminated.

Both Miley Cyrus and Jennifer Hudson responded to Freeman’s death with touching statements posted to social media.

“@janicefreeman the voice of hers we got to hear and the bit of life we got to watch her live was a blessing and inspiration to us all! My heart and prayers go out to @janicefreeman daughter and family !” Hudson’s post read.

Janice and Miley remained close friends long after her elimination from the show. In a post made to Twitter, Freeman revealed that Cyrus helped her family out after they were displaced by providing her and her family a deposit on housing and 6 months worth of rent.

Cyrus remembered her friend in a touching post to Instagram, saying, “Thank you @janicefreeman … for everything. This represents you perfectly,” Cyrus wrote on a picture of a rainbow.
