A Tragic Loss In Voice Community
On Saturday (March 2) The Voice community lost one of its brightest stars and most beloved contestants.
Janice Freeman, the 33-year-old R&B and soul singer from Season 13, passed away after suffering a severe case of pneumonia and developing a blood clot that traveled to her heart. Her team confirmed her passing on Sunday (March 3) through an emotional announcement on her social media accounts.

The powerhouse vocalist won over Voice viewers with her blind audition performance of “Radioactive.” She ended up on coach Miley Cryus‘ team after that.
Coach and contestant developed a powerful bond. Cyrus strongly believed in Freeman’s talent, and helped guide her all the way into the Top 11.

A True Fighter
In addition to inspiring viewers with her gorgeous performances, Freeman’s life story was also a source of inspiration. At such a young age she had already been through many trials in life, having been diagnosed with lupus, meningitis, and cervical cancer in the past.
Despite the many hardships she faced in life, Freeman remained strong. She showed this same sense of strength just days before her death, in what ended up being one of her final posts to her Facebook page.
“It has been a difficult, trying, discouraging, mentally draining, etc last 3 months I have had to deal with in a very long time!” she wrote. “But God is FAITHFUL and HE is healing my body and I’m starting to see a little clearly again!”

Her Voice Family Reacts
Freeman is survived by her husband, daughter, mother, and many others who loved her, including her Voice family. Her former coach reacted to her passing through her Instagram Story, sharing a photo of a rainbow outside her house that made her think of her beloved contestant.
“Thank you @janicefreeman…for everything,” Cyrus wrote. “This represents you perfectly.”
Freeman’s other Voice family members reacted to the news of her passing on social media, with many expressing shock that the young, vibrant singer had left this Earth so soon.
