Last month, Rascal Flatts announced that they will be hitting the road for their reunion tour, titled Life Is A Highway Tour, to celebrate the band’s 25th anniversary.
As many have likely heard, Rascal Flatts has announced that they will be going on tour once again after taking nearly five years off from performing. The band, made up of Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus, and Joe Don Rooney, was formed in 1999 and has since released six albums, achieving 17 number-one hits along the way.
Originally, the Grammy-nominated band announced a farewell tour set to begin in June 2020. After two decades in the industry, Rascal Flatts cited the need for a much-needed break as the reason for their farewell tour at that point in their career.
“You get to a certain part in your career where we’ve been blessed to have so many hits, so many number ones, that you actually compete with yourself on radio,” the group’s lead singer, Gary LeVox, said. “And it’s tough, year after year, to outdo the tour that you’ve done previously the year before.”
“We haven’t really had a break in 20 years. We haven’t had time to reflect,” he added.
Unfortunately, those plans were put on hold when the COVID-19 pandemic shut down nearly all live events just months after the band announced the tour. Later, Rascal Flatts decided to completely cancel all shows, with no indication that they would revive the idea of a farewell tour.
That is, until now.
Rascal Flatts Reveal That They Haven’t Seen Each Other In Person For Five Years.
Since they went their separate ways, each member of Rascal Flatts has been focused on their own projects and has kept their distance over the years. In fact, during an interview with Taste of Country Nights, the band revealed that they only recently saw each other for the first time in five years.
“I gotta be honest today. This is the first time we have been together in 5 years, man,” band member Joe Don Rooney admitted. “We’ve communicated obviously through text and through emails and our management, but this is the first time. It’s wild.”
During the conversation, the band also said that, in addition to not seeing each other in person, they haven’t even rehearsed for their upcoming tour together yet.
With so many hits under their belt, though, there’s no doubt that performing together again will feel like second nature for the band.
