Directly following her breathtaking ode to Dolly Parton at the 2016 CMA Awards, Reba McEntire flew to her home state of Oklahoma to be with her mother on her 90th birthday.
Reba’s mother, Jackie McEntire, celebrated the beginning of her ninth decade surrounded by the people she loves most. The country singer documented the special night with a photo posted to her Instagram account attached to an incredibly touching caption in which she credits her mother as the person who taught her to sing.
It’s no secret Reba is incredibly close with the woman who gave her life. Reba dedicated her win of “Female Vocalist” at the 1984 CMA Awards to her mother in the music video for “Just Like Them Horses” filmed in tribute to her late father, Clark McEntire. The video was filmed entirely on the McEntire ranch in Oklahoma.
“His life was horses, cattle, land, rodeo and business,” wrote McEntire in the video dedication. My favorite line of the song is, ‘Just like them horses, now it’s time to run.’ He did. He ran all the way to heaven. Just like them horses.”
