Ruby Leigh, The Runner-Up From Season 24 Of The Voice, Reflects On Her Experience
The Season 24 finale of The Voice was on December 19. During the show’s final moments, Team Niall’s Huntley and Team Reba‘s Ruby Leigh were the last two contestants standing.
Then, host Carson Daly announced that Huntley was the winner…making Ruby the runner-up.

16-year-old Ruby charmed the coaches and viewers throughout the competition. The young country singer amazed everyone with her range, stage presence, and yodeling skills.
It was a dream come true for a country girl like Ruby to get the chance to work with Reba. The pair celebrated during the finale with a duet performance of Brenda Lee‘s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.”
Ruby Leigh Says People Don’t Need To Apologize Because She Didn’t Win The Voice
Now that The Voice is over, Ruby is looking forward to what the future has in store for her and her music. “It’s only the beginning for me. I’m just getting started,” she told The St. Louis Post-Dispatch in a recent interview.
While Ruby didn’t win The Voice, she’s perfectly fine with that. She says people don’t need to apologize to her for coming in second place.
“Everyone is telling me ‘so sorry.’ I don’t need people to be sorry. I feel like a winner honestly. I made it so close, more than anyone in Missouri.”
Ruby added:
“I was the highest-finishing female on the show [on Season 24], and I’m a minor. Also, it was Reba’s first time. It wasn’t my destiny to win. I’m fine with that. It’s just a TV show. That’s what it is.”
Ruby Shares Funny Story About The First Time She Met Voice Winner Huntley
Ruby has nothing but kind things to say about Season 24’s winner, Huntley:
“I feel so happy for Huntley,” she said. “He’s so deserving and such a nice person. If I had to lose to anyone, I’m glad it was him. I feel like I won, too. There are so many people who would’ve never heard of me (otherwise).”
Ruby also shared a funny story about the first time she ever met Huntley.
The young singer told The St. Louis Post-Dispatch she was rehearsing in her hotel room before her blind audition. She performed Patsy Montana’s “I Want to Be a Cowboy’s Sweetheart,” which showcased her out-of-this-world yodeling skills.
Ruby was practing that yodeling when someone loudly knocked on her hotel room door. It was past 9 PM, so she was worried about a noise complaint. But instead, she opened the door to see Huntley:
“He said ‘I’m from (expletive) Virginia and never heard anything like that. That was awesome,‘” Ruby recalled. “I didn’t even know he was on the show. I thought he was a random guy.”
As fate would have it, Ruby and Huntley would be the last two singers standing by the end of Season 24! Congratulations to them both!
