How A Pop Star Crossed To Country
In 1999, Jessica Simpson kicked off her music career in a genre completely separate from the one she’s known for singing now. She was a pop star back then, and remained one for nine years before she finally crossed over to another genre…country.
In 2008, Simpson made her first country music album, Do You Know. It was clear that country fans were willing to welcome her with open arms, as the album snagged the number one spot on the Top Country Albums chart.

The transition to country music seemed natural for Simpson, who had first experimented with the genre three years before Do You Know‘s release. This experiment took place when she played the role of Daisy Duke in the Dukes of Hazzard film.
To coincide with the film, Simpson performed a new rendition of the popular song “These Boots Are Made For Walkin’.”
But despite the success of Do You Know, and an appearance in a Willie Nelson music video (also in 2008), Simpson backed away from the music industry soon after. She released a Christmas album in 2010, and after that, no more music came.
Simpson’s Growing Family
During her time away from music, Simpson started a family with husband Eric Johnson. They welcomed daughter Maxwell in 2012, and 14 months later, had son Ace.

Simpson and Johnson weren’t planning on having another child, so they were quite surprised to learn that Simpson was expecting again in 2018.
She announced the happy news on Instagram in September, also revealing that they would be welcoming another daughter.

Unveiling The Name In Style
Now well into her pregnancy, Simpson is getting ready for her baby girl’s arrival. The singer recently celebrated her newest family member at a nature-themed baby shower.
Simpson was dressed in whimsical attire, looking much like a queen of the forest.

At the shower, Simpson also seemed to reveal the name of her new little one, and she did so in a creative way. You see, the whole shower appeared to be themed around the name of the baby girl, which is also inspired by nature.
A few photos from the shower show Simpson standing in front of a floral backdrop and a table surrounded by gifts. Above her head, the words “Birdie’s Nest” were spelled out in neon lights, implying that the new baby’s name is Birdie!

As you can tell from Birdie’s name, as well as the names of Maxwell and Ace, Simpson prefers less common names for her children.
A Possible Country Music Return After Baby?
After little Birdie is born, don’t be surprised if you see Simpson make a return to the country music scene. Back in August, just one month before announcing her pregnancy, Simpson joined her good friend Willie Nelson on stage at a county fair to perform for the first time in years.
The moment marked the first time that her husband and children had ever watched her perform. You can check it out in the video below!
Congratulations to Simpson on the upcoming arrival of baby Birdie. We wish her the best in both her family life and her career!
