Did He Just Confirm Monty Is Dead?
Is Monty really dead? The co-creator of Landman, Christian Wallace, shared some interesting insight into the end of Season 1.
In the series, Jon Hamm portrayed Monty Miller, the owner of an oil company called M-Tex. Throughout his life, his character experienced five heart attacks.
In the final episode, he underwent open-heart surgery and required a heart transplant. His wife, Cami, played by Demi Moore, was informed that Monty could potentially survive if they could secure a heart transplant within the next couple of weeks.
The final scene featuring Monty showed his daughters and wife crying as he lay unconscious. It was unclear whether he had died. His family could have been mourning his condition in the hospital or simply experiencing the emotions of that frightening moment.
However, in an interview with Variety, Wallace seemed to confirm that Monty had passed away.
“It is safe to say that Monty has passed, but when you take one major player off the board, it opens up opportunities for other players — and I think that’s all I’m at liberty to say at this point.”
There have been fan theories that Monty’s passing would leave room for Cami to take a more central role in the story. She may potentially become an oil tycoon herself. Wallace shared his thoughts on this fan theory.
“There is a lot more story left to tell with Cami,” Wallace says. “Taylor has big plans. That’s all I’m going to say.”
Season 2 of Landman has not been officially confirmed, but given its popularity, fans are expecting to be able to watch their favorite series in 2025.
The hit show could still save Monty Miller, but it is looking like fans might get a new leader of M-Tex.

What Does This Mean For Tommy in Landman?
At the end of Season 1, Billy Bob Thornton who plays Tommy Norris, is appointed as the president of M-Tex and the executor of Monty’s estate. This change has left fans anxious. It seems Monty may spend more time in the boardroom than working as a “landman” in the potential Season 2.
When asked about his thoughts on this new role, Thornton said:
“Tommy would much rather be out there doing what he’s been doing, but unfortunately, under these circumstances, it’s the right thing to do,” Thornton says. “Tommy knows he can be helpful. But he also certainly never wanted to be some type of executive person — it’s against his nature. So I don’t think that Tommy is going to stop being a landman. I don’t know this for a fact, but I know the character — and I know I sure wouldn’t stop.”
