Season 1 of Taylor Sheridan’s hit series, “Landman,” came to an end Sunday (January 12), and fans are anxiously awaiting news of Season 2.

“Landman” is one of three standalone series created by “Yellowstone” writer Taylor Sheridan. Based on the Boomtown podcast, “Landman” focuses on the cutthroat world that is the oil industry.

“It’s based on oil speculators and what they called landmen, which are the guys that run around and try to acquire mineral rights and land rights in the hope of speculating and finding oil,” series star Jon Hamm told People.

The star-studded cast includes Billy Bob Thornton, who portrays oil company crisis manager Tommy Norris; Ali Larter, who plays Tommy’s ex-wife; and Demi Moore, who landed the role of Cami, “wife to one of the most powerful oil men in Texas [played by Jon Hamm] and friend of Tommy Norris.”

Moore opened up about her role as an oil tycoon’s wife, saying that she gets to wear “lots of nice clothes” and has enjoyed “exploring the issues around oil, petroleum, on all sides … there’s a delicious drama within and family dynamics.”

Upon its debut in November, “Landman” became the most popular original series to air on Paramount+. Thornton believed in the project but didn’t anticipate just how successful it would be.

“I’ve been in some iconic movies over the years where the response has been pretty big,” Thornton told The LA Times. “But I’ve never seen anything like this. I have people coming up to me every day, everywhere I go, reciting lines. We’re blown away by it, in other words.”

Will there be a “Landman” Season 2?

The fate of “Landman” hasn’t been officially announced by the Paramount network, but considering the show’s success, it would be surprising if it wasn’t renewed. And one of its cast members seemingly confirmed that a second season would be happening.

In an interview with Deadline in May 2024, Demi Moore shared that filming for Season 2 was scheduled to begin in early 2025.

“I’ve already completed the first season, and I’m excited for us to start the second, which will be at the beginning of next year,” Moore told the outlet.
