Thomas Rhett Brings “Country Again” To The CMT Music Awards

He might only have a single CMT Music Award to his name, but that doesn’t stop Thomas Rhett from performing at the 2021 CMT Music Awards!

Rhett’s lone award came in 2016 for Best Male Music Video for his song “Die A Happy Man.”

Rhett walked the 2021 CMT Music Awards red carpet solo. His wife of eight years, Lauren Akins, stayed home, as she’s currently pregnant with their fourth daughter. This pregnancy has been difficult for her, so we understand why she decided not to attend the Awards.

Rhett announced they were expecting during his show at Billy Bob’s Texas on May 9.

Well… we are pregnant again! Tonight when I was on stage in Fort Worth about to play “to the guys that date my girls” my wife talked to me in my (ear monitors) and said “you can tell them if you want” so anyways, now you know. We are pumped to be having our 4th girl,” he wrote.

The 2021 CMT Music Awards were hosted by Kane Brown and Kelsea Ballerini. It was jam-packed with performances from Luke Combs, Chris Stapleton, Miranda Lambert, and more!

Rhett took the stage on Wednesday night (June 9) to perform his latest single “Country Again,” which was written by Rhett, Ashley Gorley and Zach Crowell. Rhett told uDiscover Music, “It’s one of my favorite songs I’ve written yet and honestly just feels full circle in so many ways… it’s about the crazy journey I’ve been on over the last decade and ultimately finding my way back home.

We are glad he found his way back home in this song because it’s one of our favorites of his in a while!

Man, it feels good to be country again,” Rhett sang. See the full performance below!
