Country star Thomas Rhett Akins and his wife Lauren welcomed their third daughter on Monday (February 10). Lennon Love Akins joins sisters Willa Gray (4 1/2) and Ada James (2), and according to Thomas Rhett, seeing his daughters meet for the first time was something he won’t soon forget.
The couple were childhood sweethearts who married in 2012. But, their road to wedded bliss wasn’t without hiccups. In their late teens, Lauren and Thomas Rhett got into serious relationships with other people. “I almost married someone else, and she did too,” said Thomas told CBS This Morning.
Thankfully, Lauren’s dad interceded. “Her dad called me and said, ‘If you don’t come over here tonight and tell Lauren how you feel about her, then I’m going to tell her how you feel about her.”
“We kissed, and that was it. We dated for probably six months, and we got engaged,” he explained.
After five years of marriage, the Akins crew doubled in size when they adopted their first daughter, Willa Gray, from Uganda. A few months later, Lauren gave birth to their second daughter, Ada James.
Thomas Rhett may be seriously outnumbered living in a houseful of girl, but the “Life Changes” singer couldn’t be happier. He and his wife shared the news of newborn daughter Lennon’s birth on social media Tuesday along with photos of their new addition meeting her big sisters, and it’s clear that this family has plenty of love to go around.
In his post, Thomas Rhett called the moment his trio of girls met for the first time “the sweetest thing I’ve ever seen in my whole life!” He added that “Ada James and Willa Gray are going to be the best big sisters on the planet. The Lord is so good and I’m so grateful for my beautiful growing family!!”
