Two major names in the country music industry just announced their participation in one of the biggest events leading up to Donald Trump’s inauguration. As announced by the Inaugural Committee on Friday (January 13), Toby Keith and Lee Greenwood will both be performing at the “Make America Great Again! Welcome Celebration” concert in Washington D.C. on January 19, the day before the inauguration.
Greenwood confirmed his involvement in a press release issued Friday. This will mark the fourth time that Greenwood has performed for a presidential inauguration. In the past, he sang for the inaugurations of Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, and George W. Bush. Greenwood also performed in front of five living presidents during the opening ceremonies of the Reagan library.
In his press release, Greenwood expressed how grateful he is to have the chance to perform for yet another presidential inauguration:
“I’m honored to be part of history again and sing for President-elect Donald Trump. This is a time to overcome challenges in our country and band together. My wife Kim and I are looking forward to the inauguration ceremonies.”
As for Keith, his participation in the inauguration festivities was reported by Billboard. At press time, Keith had not yet made any comments about his involvement in the concert.
In addition to Keith and Greenwood, the celebration concert will feature performances from southern rock band 3 Doors Down, R&B artist Jennifer Holliday, and The Piano Guys.
Also on Friday, it was announced in a press release that Larry Gatlin & The Gatlin Brothers will be performing during the Black Tie & Boots Inaugural Ball in Washington D.C. on January 19. Country group The Randy Rogers Band is scheduled to perform during the ball as well.
These country artists aren’t the only ones involved in celebrating the inauguration. Country duo Big & Rich have signed up to perform at two events, the first being the Great America Alliance Inaugural Gala on January 19. As headliners, they will be joined by country singer/songwriter Cowboy Troy for that performance.
The second commitment Big & Rich made for the inauguration takes place on inauguration day. They are set to perform at the Record Industry Association of America’s charity event that night.
On Thursday (January 12) Rascal Flatts‘ lead singer Gary LeVox was announced as the performer at the Veterans Inaugural Ball on inauguration day. He will be joined by Rascal Flatts’ hit songwriting duo Wendell Mobley and Neil Thrasher.
That’s quite a roster of country artists! As the final details of the inauguration fall into place, we wouldn’t be surprised if more artists sign up to perform at various events.
Since Greenwood is known for his song “God Bless the U.S.A.,” we’re sure he’ll sing it during the celebration concert. You can tune in below to watch his outstanding Opry performance of the song during his appearance there last year.
