With its lead actors being Sam Elliott, Tim McGraw, and Faith Hill, 1883 has a star-studded cast. The series has also featured other famous figures in guest roles, including Billy Bob Thornton and Tom Hanks.
Both Thornton and Hanks appeared in Episode 2 of the new Yellowstone prequel series. Thornton played Marshal Jim Courtright and Hanks portrayed Union General George Meade.
Hanks appeared in a flashback scene alongside McGraw’s James Dutton. The scene showed General Meade sharing a brief, but powerful moment with Dutton after a battle.

Now, it has been announced that Hanks’ wife, country singer and actress Rita Wilson, will also have a guest role in 1883.
“Wilson will appear in an upcoming episode of the ‘Yellowstone’ prequel series in the role of Carolyn, a storekeeper at Doan’s Crossing who helps Margaret (Faith Hill) decompress with some whiskey punch,” Variety reports.
It’s fitting that Wilson’s character will be interacting with Hill’s. The two women have been friends for years.
The same day news broke about Wilson’s involvement in 1883, she gushed about her friendship with Hill.
“Hard to believe our friendship is already 19 years old,” Wilson wrote alongside an old photo of her and Hill at an awards ceremony. “It’s proof that our business, which sometimes gets a bad rap for lack of longevity in relationships also creates lasting friendships based on trust, kindness, and of course, humor. Love you, Faith.”
Deadline previously spoke with 1883‘s creator/writer Taylor Sheridan, who said “there will be several star surprises” throughout the series. So Wilson may not be the last famous guest star to be featured on the show.
We can’t wait to see Wilson’s character in 1883!
