The viral photo of a quarantined son and father sharing a moment separated by glass has touched the hearts of many and has given us all an eye-opening view of the current harsh reality for healthcare workers that are on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic.

Alyssa Burks snapped the sweet moment between her husband and son after two long weeks of not seeing each other. This moment was extra special because it was the first time Dr. Jared Burks was witnessing his son Zeke crawl.

In a news interview with ABC Alyssa said:

“As soon as he saw his dad he just raced to the door, he got up on the glass because I think he wanted him to hold him, so it was sad, it was cute, but it was really heartbreaking because it’s hard.”

Just days after this photo was taken the Burks home was destroyed by a tornado.

Dr. Jared Burks was inside alone when the tornado hit, but luckily he was able to hide in a master closet and remain unharmed. Alyssa and her son Zeke were staying at her mom’s to quarantine themselves away from the possible exposure of the coronavirus that could be brought home from Jared while working at the hospital.

Alyssa took to Facebook to update everyone on the status of their family home and her husband.

A GoFundMe account has been set up for the Burks to help pick up the pieces and support the family while Dr. Burks is continuing to help with the fight against the coronavirus.
