Those who tune in to the ACM Awards often wonder what the difference is between the Song and Single of the Year categories.

To put it in simple terms, the Song of the Year award is based on songwriting. The award is given to the songwriter(s), publisher(s), and artist(s).

As for the Single of the Year award, it is more so based on commercial success. It is given to the artist(s), producer(s), and record company-label(s).

Five of the past year’s biggest hits were nominated for Single of the Year at the 2022 ACM Awards. The nominees were…

  • “Buy Dirt” by Jordan Davis feat. Luke Bryan
  • “Famous Friends” by Chris Young and Kane Brown
  • “Fancy Like” by Walker Hayes
  • “If I Didn’t Love You” by Jason Aldean and Carrie Underwood
  • “You Should Probably Leave” by Chris Stapleton
