An El Paso Zoo may be considering changing the spider monkeys enclosure after a woman jumped over a fence to feed them Hot Cheetos.
The woman was caught on camera and is expected to face potential charges for her actions. The 38-second video showed the woman sitting beside a waterfall inside the monkey enclose as she extended her hand of Hot Cheetos towards two monkeys.
The monkeys were hesitant at first but eventually got brave enough to take them out of her hand. While they were distracted by the Cheetos, she walked back across the moat to the fence where her laughing friends were recording and ready to help her back over.
It was all fun and games until the video went viral on social media and the company she worked for, Lovett Law Firm found out and fired her. They released a public statement confirming that she was fired but did not give her identity away.
“The firm has always been a strong supporter of animals and animal advocacy,” the law firm wrote. “We absolutely do not condone this irresponsible and reckless behavior. We support the El Paso Zoo and our thoughts go out to the spider monkeys, Libby and Sunday, and hope that they will recover from this very traumatic experience.”
