Cole Hauser And Matthew McConaughey To Co-Star In Upcoming Netflix Series

Former Dazed and Confused co-stars Matthew McConaughey and Cole Hauser will soon reunite for a new project.

The Hollywood Reporter writes that McConaughey, Hauser, and True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto have all attached themselves to a yet-to-be-officially-titled series. McConaughey has prior experience working with Pizzolatto, as he starred in True Detective‘s first season alongside his longtime friend Woody Harrelson.

Not much is known about the new series from McConaughey, Hauser, and Pizzolatto. The Hollywood Reporter says it’s being called The Brothers Project, and that McConaughey and Hauser’s characters are brothers. The project also comes from Skydance Sports, making it seem likely the film could have a sports theme.

You’ll need a Netflix subscription to watch McConaughey and Hauser’s new show. Netflix recently won the rights to the project in a bidding war. According to “sources” who spoke with The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon and Apple also engaged in the fight to secure the series.

Hauser Is Also Involved With A Yellowstone Spin-Off, The Dutton Ranch

The news of McConaughey and Hauser’s new show comes after rumors that McConaughey considered leading a Yellowstone spin-off. If that happened to be the case, the plans seemingly fell through.

That didn’t keep Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan from plating up a buffet of new shows. Multiple spin-offs and connected series are in the works, including one centered on Hauser’s Rip Wheeler and Kelly Reilly’s Beth Dutton.

The spin-off, with the working title The Dutton Ranch, initially aimed for a late 2025 premiere. However, its debut has been delayed until 2026.

Hauser, Reilly, and their former Yellowstone co-star Finn Little have all signed on to star in The Dutton Ranch. They recently gained a new cast member, Golden Globe winner Annette Bening. She will play a character named Beulah Jackson

Other Yellowstone spin-offs or connected shows looming on the horizon include The Madison, Y: Marshals, 6666, and 1944.
