America loved this actor and the character he played on the CBS soap opera Dallas that they brought him back from the dead. Jared Martin, who played Steven “Dusty” Farlow, initially signed on to be on just three episodes of the series to woo Sue Ellen Ewing and after a failed affair, was killed in a plane crash – or so we thought.

During a season finale, main character, and Sue Ellen’s husband J.R. Ewing, was shot by an unseen gunman, which left viewers with the question, “Who shot J.R.?”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, viewer polls and Las Vegas oddsmakers made [Martin’s] character a favorite” to be the gunman.

He was miraculously brought back by the show’s writers and his character, who fans called “Lusty Dusty”, somehow managed to escape the plane crash paralyzed from the waist down was given a new story line – a miraculous recovery from paralysis. He eventually made a full recovery and even returned to the rodeo circuit.

Martin can also be seen in movies including Westworld, The Lonely Lady, and The Second Coming of Suzanne and on TV in The Love Boat, and L.A. Law.

His son, Christian Martin, general manager for video at SiriusXM told The Hollywood Reporter that his father passed away on Wednesday (May 24) at the age of 75 from pancreatic cancer.

He is survived by his son, daughter-in-law Liz Cole, grandchildren Charlie and Emilia, and his wife, Yu Wei. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this time.
