We’ve all heard them…the mother-in-law horror stories. In fact, the concept of the “crazy mother-in-law” is a frequent staple of television programs such as Everybody Loves Raymond.
But luckily for Brantley Gilbert, he has no such stories to share when it comes to his mother-in-law. At least, not now.
Brantley and his wife, Georgia schoolteacher Amber Cochran, were married in June 2015, but they’ve know one another for much longer. Speaking about their relationship to Nash Country Daily, Brantley said they met “right out of high school.” The two started dating, but broke up for a while before they got back together and eventually married.
When the interviewer revealed that her name was Lisa, Brantley remarked that Lisa is his mother-in-law’s name. That tied in perfectly to their conversation about his relationship with Amber. Brantley said that although he and Lisa love each other now, she didn’t always have fuzzy feelings for him.
“She hasn’t always loved me,” he said. “In the beginning, probably thirteen years ago, she probably wouldn’t have minded it if I fell off the face of the earth.”
Brantley confessed that he was a bit of a “bad boy” when he was younger, and Amber had a thing for that at the time. Lisa didn’t seem to be such a fan, which is why Brantley’s relationship with her got off to a rocky start.
But that’s all changed now, as Brantley revealed that he only has nice things to say about Lisa. “I actually love my mother-in-law,” he said. “I hear horror stories about most people about their mother-in-law, but I love mine.“
