In 2011, a new supergroup made its debut, and country music was never the same.
Called the Pistol Annies, the all-female group appropriately made its debut during the ACM’s Girls Night Out: Superstar Women of Country special. Members Miranda Lambert, Ashley Monroe, and Angaleena Presley left the audience in awe with a performance of their sultry first single, “Hell on Heels.”
While that song never earned a place on the country charts, it has since been certified Platnium, making it the Annies’ most well-known track.
That song served as the title track of the group’s first album which was also released in 2011. The record claimed the top spot on the Billboard country album chart, and has since been certified Gold.
Lambert, Monroe, and Presley only waited two years before releasing their sophomore album. Titled Annie Up, the collection reached the second spot on the chart and produced the group’s highest-charting single, “Hush Hush.”
After Annie Up, fans were expecting a third album from the Pistol Annies within the next couple of years. But when that album never came, people couldn’t help but wonder if the group had decided to call it quits.
All along, the members made it clear that they were still friends, and were certainly open to the idea of bringing the Annies back. This is something they would confirm every now and then with surprise performances together at Lambert’s concerts.
Within recent months, the Annies finally made it crystal clear that they were working on new music together. Lambert hinted at it before anyone else, putting up an Instagram post in February that said she was writing new music for the group.
Since then, the Annies haven’t tried to hide the fact that they’re working on a new project. At last, we have an idea of where they’re at when it comes to the progress on that project.
Based on a post that the group shared to their Instagram account, it appears they are finally in the studio again!
The post contains a photo of Lambert, Monroe, and Presley all huddled up together in front of some microphones. While the caption was simple, the hashtags offered up the most information, telling fans to “#staytuned.”

Since the girls appear to be hard at work in the studio now, that means that we could have a new Annies album by the end of the year. Guess only time will tell!
What do y’all think of this news? If you’re excited to hear some new music from the Annies, try to satisfy your craving by listening to one of their lesser-known songs, “Housewife’s Prayer” in the clip below.
