Corey Comperatore tragically lost his life in a senseless shooting at a Donald Trump rally in Pennsylvania, which is being described as a failed assassination attempt.
The 20-year-old gunman shot former President Trump in the ear, injuring two others, and fatally wounding Corey. A beloved fire chief, Corey died while shielding his family, instructing them to “Get down!”
Following the incident, Trump was quickly taken off the stage by Secret Service members, urging his constituents to “Fight” as he was escorted away.
Corey, 50, left behind a wife, Helen, two daughters, Allyson and Kaylee, and many other family members who loved him dearly.
According to his obituary, Corey was a 10-year veteran of the US Army Reserve and had a lifelong dedication to the Buffalo Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as fire chief in the early 2000s.
“His courage was not the loud and boisterous kind; it was the courage of quiet resilience, the strength to be vulnerable, and the bravery to lead with love. Corey’s legacy is not just in the major milestones he achieved but in the small acts of kindness that marked his everyday life. He was quick to help those in need, never expecting anything in return, and his impact on the lives he touched was profound,” his obituary read.
Corey’s public funeral was held on Wednesday, July 17.
Thousands of people showed up to a Pennsylvania banquet hall to pay their respects, including family, friends, and strangers.
While former President Trump did not attend the funeral, the same night, he honored Corey in his speech at the Republican National Convention.

He also spoke with Helen Comperatore, Corey’s widow, last week, offering his condolences and telling her he would be in touch in the future.
A private funeral was held on Friday, July 19.
Country singer Billy Ray Cyrus performed a total of two songs at the private funeral – “Amazing Grace” and “Some Gave All.”
“Some Gave All” is a song about honoring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. While it is usually reserved for military members, we think we can all agree, this song was a perfect choice for Corey’s funeral.
In it, Cyrus sings,
“All Gave Some, Some Gave All
Some stood through for the red, white and blue
And some had to fall
And if you ever think of me
Think of all your liberties and recall
Some Gave All”
In an Instagram post on Friday (July 19), Cyrus wrote, “Corey Comperatore made the ultimate sacrifice. He gave all for his family and his country. It was an honor to be at his service today. You’re all in my prayers.”
Cyrus was taken by Corey’s story and shared it on his social media.
We will continue to pray for Corey’s family and loved ones who are mourning his loss.
