Brantley Gilbert and his wife, Amber, have some exciting news to share! As the couple confirmed to People in a statement released on Tuesday (May 16), they are expecting their first child together! They also shared several photos with the magazine to go along with their announcement.
Brantley and Amber dated for five years when they were younger, but eventually went their seperate ways. For the longest time, Brantley believed that Amber would always be “the one that got away.”
But the two eventually reunited, and married in June 2015. The couple hosted a small ceremony at Brantley’s home in Georgia.
Ever since then, the couple has secretly been trying to have a baby. But Brantley revealed that it was a struggle for them to conceive. After visiting a fertility specialist, the couple was told that it would be hard for them to conceive without in vitro fertilization.
“We’d been to see a fertility specialist, and two different folks that told me it would be close to a miracle if it happened without IVF,” Brantley said. “I’m not much of a quitter, but I was really, really frustrated.”
Brantley said that Amber wasn’t keen on IVF, so they decided to hold off on their plans for a little while. Then, while Brantley was on tour in February, the unexpected happened.
“She handed me a box and there were three pregnancy tests in there and all of them were positive,” Gilbert recalled. “I think I stared at it for at least two minutes without saying anything because I was literally in shock. We’d been told it was just not in the cards, and I’m staring at this answer to many, many, many prayers.”
Amber is due in November, and the couple plans to find out the sex of their baby in two weeks. They intend to raise their new bundle of joy at their home in Maysville, Georgia.
Needless to say, Brantley is over the moon excited to become a dad.
“I’m not an emotional guy, but this has got me crying like a baby,” he said. “I’m pretty good around other folks now, but when I’m by myself, if I look at one of the pictures from the doctor’s office, I lose a few tears.”
