2017 was a trying year for Carrie Underwood. But, the “Jesus, Take the Wheel” singer isn’t letting the trials of the year keep her down.
In a recent interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Underwood revealed that she suffered two miscarriages in 2017 and another in early 2018. The singer, who is now pregnant with her second child, shared that two of the miscarriages took place prior to her accident in November.
“2017 just wasn’t how I imagined it. I’d kind of planned that 2017 was, you know, going to be the year that I work on new music, and I have a baby. We got pregnant early 2017, and didn’t work out,” Carrie said.
“And I got pregnant again in the spring, and it didn’t work out. Got pregnant again, early 2018. Didn’t work out. So, at that point, it was just kind of like, ‘Okay, like, what’s the deal? What is all of this?’” Underwood poured her time into writing new music, and even when she didn’t feel like writing, it helped her work through the feelings of loss.
In the midst of her heartache, Underwood suffered another huge blow when she fell outside of her Nashville home the day after co-hosting the CMA Awards. The fall left Carrie with a broken wrist and more than 40 stitches in her face.
After the fall, Underwood stayed out the public eye for several months and didn’t reveal many details about the accident. She eventually warned fans that she was “not quite looking the same” and wasn’t sure exactly how it was going to turn out. “When I am ready to get in front of a camera, I want you all to understand why I might look a bit different,” she wrote to her fan club.
When Underwood made her return to the stage at the ACM Awards in April, fans were shocked to see that she looked untouched by the accident. In fact, many questioned the severity of the fall.
In a post made to social media on Saturday (October 6), the 35-year old shared the first close-up photo of her scar. The photo was a flashback from the filming of her “Love Wins” video shoot and shows a visible, but slight, scar that runs from Underwood’s top lip to the base of her nose.

The photo was met with praise from Carrie’s fans who applauded her for sharing a “normal photo.”
