The wait is finally over! Carrie Underwood’s much-anticipated new single “Cry Pretty” is here and it’s everything we hoped it would be…and more.
The song was co-written by Underwood and Hillary Lindsey, Liz Rose, and Lori McKenna, a powerhouse trio of Nashville songwriters who have an impressive number of chart-topping and Grammy award winning hits between them. According to a heartfelt letter written to fans Tuesday morning (April 10), Underwood revealed the song’s meaning and it’s connection to the struggles she’s faced in the last year.
“The title refers to when emotions take over and you just can’t hold them back,” Underwood wrote. “It really speaks to a lot of things that have happened in the past year and I hope when you hear it, you can relate those feelings to those times in your life. It’s emotional. It’s real. And it ROCKS!”
In November, just days after co-hosting the CMA Awards alongside Brad Paisley for the 10th year in a row, Underwood tripped and fell outside of her Nashville-area home. The fall resulted in a broken wrist and a “gruesome” facial injury that left Carrie with more than 40 stitches in her face.
In the months since the accident, Carrie Underwood has stayed out of the spotlight, but that doesn’t mean she hasn’t been busy. In fact, the “forced relaxation” has given the “Something In The Water” singer a chance to spend some time with her son Isaiah and her husband Mike Fisher who recently rejoined the Nashville Predators after coming out of retirement.
Underwood has also used the extra time to pour into her new album, and the fruits of her labor are evident in the powerful lyrics and melody of “Cry Pretty.”
