At the beginning of 2018, fans were speculating a surprise Chris Stapleton and Justin Timberlake performance to take place on Super Bowl Sunday, since the latter served as the halftime entertainment.
Timberlake performed “Filthy,” a song off of his brand-new album Man of the Woods, hits from his albums Justified, FutureSex/LoveSounds, and 20/20 Experience, as well as his chart-topping Platinum-selling song “Can’t Stop The Feeling.”
Unfortunately, for some fans, he completed the entire 14-minute performance without any surprise guests, but we did get a collaboration from Stapleton and Timberlake on Super Bowl Sunday! It just didn’t take place at the actual game.
Instead of being a guest during the halftime performance, Stapleton joined his good friend on a special episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
The Tonight Show held a special taping immediately after the Philadelphia Eagles won Super Bowl LII at the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis, Minnesota, less than three miles from where the historic game took place. Timberlake opened the show solo with his song “Supplies” and just after the monologue, Fallon announced that he would be returning to the stage to perform “Say Something” with Stapleton, and the crowd went nuts!
When it came time to close out the show, Timberlake started the song off solo, with Stapleton strumming his guitar next to him. After the five-time Grammy winner sang his first lyric, the audience began cheering and when Timberlake joined him for the chorus, it was pure harmony.
