Caleb Lee Hutchinson has been dubbed “The Next Scotty McCreery” and after his Idol performance Sunday night (April 1) we couldn’t agree more with the title. Hutchinson performed a flawless cover of Josh Turner’s “Your Man,” the very song that McCreery auditioned with during the 2011 season in which he ultimately took home the title.
The all-star judging panel has been intrigued with 18-year old Hutchinson ever since he offered his rich bass voice to the SteelDrivers “If It Hadn’t Been For Love” during the first audition round. Judge Lionel Richie complimented Caleb’s voice at the time saying, “Your voice is well above your age. I smile when you sing.”
Hutchinson had the judges smiling once again as he threw in a little vocal surprise at the end of his “Your Man” performance Sunday. He showed that he can not only sing the hard to reach low notes, but his falsetto is equally impressive. Judge Katy Perry called the unexpected ending a “little surprise” and it no doubt left the panel impressed and agreeing that Hutchinson has what it takes to move on in the competition.
