Director Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming Elvis movie has received glowing reviews from Elvis Presley‘s family. His ex-wife, Priscilla Presley, was the first to share her thoughts on the film.
“I relived every moment in this film,” she said. “It took me a few days to overcome the emotions as it did with Lisa. Beautifully done...”

Elvis’ only child, Lisa Marie Presley, got the chance to see the film a few times as well. Lisa Marie had been silent on social media since February 2021, but she broke that silence to gush about the Elvis film.
She also praised actor Austin Butler, who plays Elvis in the movie:
“I do want to take a moment to let you know that I have seen Baz Luhrmann’s movie ‘Elvis” twice now, and let me tell you that it is nothing short of spectacular,” Lisa Marie said. “Absolutely exquisite. Austin Butler channeled and embodied my father’s heart and soul beautifully. In my humble opinion, his performance is unprecedented and FINALLY done accurately and respectfully. (If he doesn’t get an Oscar for this, I will eat my own foot, haha.)“
Lisa Marie’s daughter, Riley Keough, also watched the movie. She too, ended up loving it:
“In the first five minutes, I could feel how much work Baz and Austin put into trying to get it right. That made me emotional immediately,” she told Variety. “I started crying five minutes in and didn’t stop…I felt honored they worked so hard to really get his essence, to feel his essence. Austin captured that so beautifully.”
Riley never got the chance to know her legendary grandfather. So this movie gives her an idea of what he was like and why he was beloved by so many.
A new trailer for the Elvis film was recently released, and you can watch it below. After hearing Priscilla, Lisa Marie, and Riley rave about the film, we can’t wait to watch it on June 24!
