Jay Cutler, former quarterback for the NFL, was arrested on multiple charges

Jay Cutler spent the evening of Thursday, October 17th, behind bars after he was arrested on four charges near Nashville, Tennessee. As initially reported by TMZ, Cutler was involved in a car accident around 5 p.m. downtown in Franklin, TN, when he rear-ended another vehicle. Max Winitz, the city’s police spokesperson, confirmed the news to CBS on Friday (Oct 18).

Upon arrival, law enforcement reported noticing a strong smell of alcohol emanating from Cutler. Additionally, they asserted that the 41-year-old was exhibiting inebriated behavior, including slurred speech and bloodshot eyes.

Cutler allegedly refused to take field sobriety tests on-site and was transported to a local hospital for blood sampling. While the results of those tests are not public, he was consequently arrested on DUI and gun possession charges.

The former professional athlete had two firearms in his car, including one loaded pistol. It is illegal in the state of Tennessee to carry a handgun while consuming any drugs or alcohol.

Cutler’s additional charges include failure to exercise due care and violating implied consent law.
