George & Tammy Series About George Jones & Tammy Wynette Earns Award Show Recognition
The relationship between country music icons George Jones and Tammy Wynette was explored in the 2022 Showtime series George & Tammy. Michael Shannon played George, while Jessica Chastain portrayed Tammy.
George & Tammy has already received a lot of attention from awards shows. Jessica specifically was nominated for a Golden Globe award for her performance. She was also nominated for, and won, a Screen Actors Guild Award.
The series and its stars have the support of George and Tammy’s only child together, Georgette Jones. In fact, the show is based off of Georgette’s autobiography, The Three of Us: Growing Up with Tammy and George.
Needless to say, Georgette was understandably thrilled when the nominees for the 2023 Emmy Awards were announced on Wednesday (July 12). Jessica was nominated for Best Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or TV Movie and Michael was nominated for Best Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or TV Movie.
In addition, members of the George & Tammy crew also received Emmy nods. Costume Designer Mitchell Travers was nominated for Outstanding Period Costumes. Director of Photography Igor Martinovic was nominated for Outstanding Cinematography For A Series (One Hour).
Georgette Jones Responds To Show’s Emmy Nominations
Georgette congratulated the cast and crew of George & Tammy on their Emmy nominations. She said:
