Scotty McCreery wrote an entire song the night his son, Avery, was born, and it is the sweetest track ever!
“The Dash” singer and his wife, Gabi, welcomed their son, Merrick Avery McCreery, into the world on October 24, 2022. The couple refers to their son by his middle name, Avery, while his first name comes from Gabi’s father, who is named Merrick. Avery was born 11 days ahead of his initial due date, weighing 7 lbs, 13 oz.
Speaking to PEOPLE, the American Idol alum opened up about how he experienced “a lot of emotions” the night Avery was born.
“It was just instant, unconditional love,” McCreery shared. “I’ve never felt a love like that, never knew a love like that could exist, and at the same time was just so proud of Gabi and all the hard work she did during this time. She was so awesome through the nine months of pregnancy and the delivery — she’s a champ.”

It turns out, the feelings ran even deeper, as Scotty McCreery wrote a whole heartfelt song just for this special moment.
He put all of the feelings he was experiencing into his song “Love Like This,” which is on his fifth album, Rise & Fall.
McCreery gave fans a sneak peek of the song back in January. He shared a short, 25-second long video, featuring images and clips of him and his family. The meaningful lyrics of the song really showcase a true dad song.

I’ve never felt this way /
Girl, I think I might have thought I did /
But everything changed today.”

In “Love Like This,” McCreery sings about the night his son Avery was born.
The song is full of feeling and shows how happy new parents can be. McCreery shares his deep love for his wife Gabi and their little baby, who made their lives so different. Avery is now almost two years old. The couple celebrated his first birthday with an adorable Toy Story-themed party.
During a May interview with Music Mayhem, the North Carolina native talked about how he often writes songs about his own life. He said becoming a dad naturally gave him new ideas for songs.
“…I’ve always written from the heart. I’ve always said, for me, it’s easier to write a song if I’ve lived it, if I know it, if I believe it in. Fatherhood, that’s the biggest thing that’s ever happened to me in my life. So how could you not write songs? Just sitting there looking at him and Gabi, [I] was like, ‘Man, I’ve known love but not like this.’ So I was taking pictures of the room number he was in so I could put it in the song and all sorts of stuff.”
