Rory McIlroy Achieves Back-To-Back Wins At The Masters

Everything about the 2026 Masters Tournament was historic, including the winner’s payout.

The 2026 Masters were held from April 9-12 at the prestigious Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. After four days of golfing, Rory McIlroy emerged as the victor of the tournament, with a final score of -12. He was just one stroke ahead of second-place finisher Scottie Scheffler.

McIlroy also won the tournament in 2025. With this year’s victory, he became only the fourth golfer in history to win back-to-back Masters. Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo and Tiger Woods are the others who’ve accomplished the feat.

Following his win, McIlroy rushed to hug his five-year-old daughter, Poppy, before kissing his wife, Erica. Later, he thanked his family during a victory speech, saying:

First and foremost, my wife and daughter, Erica and Poppy, they have to put up with me at home, and trust me, sometimes that’s a tough thing to do.”

He continued, saying, “But they have been my biggest supporters, and this has definitely turned into Poppy’s favorite week of the year. I don’t know if it’s the Par 3 tournament or the all-you-can-eat ice cream in the players’ services building.”

In an adorable moment, little Poppy covered her face with her hand in response to her father’s jest.

How Much Money Will Rory McIlroy Receive In His Payout For Winning The Masters?

Following McIlroy’s incredible Masters win, many are left asking, how much money will he receive in his payout? We actually know the answer…

The final purse for the 2026 Masters tournament was revealed on Saturday, April 11. As Fox Business explains, those who participate in the Masters aren’t aware of how much prize money they’ll receive until after the 36-hole cut.

The Augusta Chronicle reports that this year’s purse totaled a staggering $22.5 million, up $1.5 million from last year. Fox Business further highlights the size of this year’s purse, noting how the total had increased by $7.5 million since 2022.

The “purse” is the total amount of money the Masters has to distribute to the participants.

Even professionals who didn’t make the weekend earned a payout of $25,000. 54 golfers made the cut for the tournament this year. The Augusta Chronicle states that those who ranked lower than 50th place received prizes “downward from $55,350.”

The payouts for 50th place and upward increased gradually with each step. The final scorecard, published by ESPN, shows that Haotong Li, Ryan Gerard, and Jon Rahm were the first golfers to receive a six-figure payout from the Masters this year. They tied for 38th place and earned $101,250.

As for McIlroy, he earned a jaw-dropping $4.5 million for winning the Masters. That amount is unprecedented, as no champion has ever earned more. For perspective, McIlroy earned $4.2 million for his Masters win in 2025.

Scottie Scheffler, who came in second place, received $2.43 million. Tyrrell Hatton, Russell Henley, and Justin Rose, who tied for third, each earned $1.08 million.
