In a matter of a few short years, country a cappella group Home Free has managed to entertain millions. From their viral music videos such as “My Church,” to their jam-packed shows, it’s clear that Home Free is a force to be reckoned with in the music industry.
While Home Free has been around since 2000, many of the group’s current fans were introduced to them on The Sing-Off. The reality competition series was similar to others such as The Voice and American Idol from the standpoint that it searched for undiscovered talents with the intention of making them stars. But unlike the other shows, The Sing-Off was completely focused on a cappella groups.
Everyone knew from the get-go that Home Free was a frontrunner in the competition. So it came as no surprise when the group was crowned the winner of their season. Just a few months after their big win, Home Free got the chance to perform at the gig of a lifetime. They later shared a video of the performance on their YouTube channel, and it’s quite remarkable.
It was 2014, and the Minnesota Twins were playing their season opener. Home Free was invited to come perform at the game, and they were happy to do so. Donning a matching Twins jerseys, they ended up singing one of the most meaningful songs in the history of the U.S.A. The song was none other than “God Bless America”
“God Bless America” was first written in 1918 by Irving Berlin. He revised the song 20 years later, and it was the revised version that was recorded by the legendary Kate Smith. From that moment on, “God Bless America” has been played and performed at celebrations and sporting events across the country.
Home Free managed to stop people in their tracks with their performance of the beloved American anthem. We honestly can’t blame them, because the guys ended up delivering a brilliant rendition of “God Bless America.” The song has always been an emotional one, but Home Free made it even more so with their chill-inducing harmonies. Just listen to that final note…it will give you goosebumps.
Once the guys finished singing, the small crowd surrounding them rewarded them with enthusiastic cheers. We think they were more than deserving of such a response!
Tune in below to watch Home Free deliver their outstanding performance of “God Bless America.” Is there anything that these guys can’t sing? We don’t think so!
