Actress and singer Jessica Simpson just released her memoir, Open Book. To go along with the book’s release, she shared six new songs, marking her official return to the music industry after a ten-year hiatus. The last time she released new music was in 2010, which was when she dropped her holiday record, Happy Christmas.

Simpson’s singing career started in the pop world, but she eventually leaned more toward the country side of things. Her last non-holiday album, 2008’s Do You Know, was released as a country record.

Three years prior to that, Simpson shook up the charts with her country-fried rendition of “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’.” The recording appeared on the soundtrack for the 2005 Dukes of Hazzard film, in which Simpson played Daisy Duke.

Another singer who starred in the Dukes of Hazzard movie was Willie Nelson, who played Uncle Jesse. He and Simpson became close during filming, and he later featured her in the music video for his 2008 song “You Don’t Think I’m Funny Anymore.”

Simpson and Nelson have remained good friends ever since. So when Simpson finally sang again for the first time in years, Nelson was by her side.

In August 2018, Nelson surprised a crowd gathered at the Orange County Fair when he welcomed Simpson to the stage. The two sang what was a then-unknown song, but the crowd still enjoyed it.

Now, over a year and a half later, that song has a name…”Your Fool.”

To coincide with the release of her memoir, Simpson shared six new songs, with “Your Fool” being one of them. You can only hear the finished product if you purchase the audio book version of her memoir, Open Book.

Simpson wrote “Your Fool” with John Shanks, and it was directly inspired by her friendship with Nelson. ET describes the duet as “a testament to Simpson and Nelson’s friendship.”

The song has the two artists pledging their loyalty to each other. At one point, Nelson sings, “I got your back, I’ll be your one true friend. You know you’re stuck with me, until the beautiful end.”

As we mentioned earlier, you can hear the recorded version of “Your Fool” by downloading Simpson’s audio book. You can also watch the duos 2018 Orange County Fair performance of the song in the video below.

We’re so glad that Simpson has started making music again! Hopefully she’ll release even more duets with Nelson in the future.
