Facing possible jail time if convicted, the matter came to the District Attorney General’s attention when Justin Timberlake was spotted committing a crime in a voting booth.
Reported by The Tennessean earlier today, the music superstar came under investigation by Shelby County officials following a photo uploaded that showed Timberlake violating strict election-laws enacted in the state.
Timberlake normally lives in California, but recently purchased a home in Nashville and was in Memphis casting his ballot for the 2016 Presidential Election when he decided to encourage his followers on Instagram to go out and vote – but when he pulled out his phone inside the polling booth and snapped a selfie, he was in violation of the 2015 election law.
The “Drink You Away” singer has since been placed under investigation by the District Attorney General’s office of Shelby County, and a rep for the office refused to further comment on the matter saying that it is “under review”.
If convicted, violators of the law face up to 30 days in jail and a $50 fine.
