Kacey Musgraves Shares Story Of Irish Vacation Gone Awry During Appearance On Late Night with Seth Meyers
Kacey Musgraves sat down with Seth Meyers to discuss the North American leg of her Deeper Well Tour. Before kicking off her tour in Dublin, Ireland, Musgraves decided to test her solo travel skills, which resulted in a hilariously tragic story.
The “Merry Go ‘Round” singer wanted an “eat, pray, love” experience. She went to Ireland a week ahead of her tour and said:
“Ahead of the tour, I was like, ‘I want to go have this kind of Eat, Pray, Love adventure.’ I’ve never traveled to a foreign country alone, so I was like, ‘I’m gonna go ahead of the tour. I’ll just spend a week in Ireland. We kicked off the tour in Dublin, so I said, ‘I want to go explore the Aran Islands and just have this romantic adventure by my single self.’”
Her romantic adventure took a turn when she discovered that the Aran Islands do not have cars; you have to traverse the island by bike.
“So I step foot on the island. There are no cars there. You have to rent an electric bike. Within 15 minutes of stepping foot on this island, I eat complete sh*t. I have this catastrophic bike wreck. My knee is totally messed up. I’m stupid, it was me. It was my fault… I was trying to multitask and get this beautiful video while I was on a bike. Embarrassingly enough, there is proof of my stupidity.”
Though she was knocked down, she still romanticized her fall. She was on the ground when a man approached to help. In her mind, he was an attractive Irish man who would sweep her off her feet, and maybe they would “go get a Guinness.” She shared, somewhat disappointed that it was an American, and all he did was say, “Nothing like a fall to make you feel alive, right?”
The trip did not get better after her fall, as her first experience with fish and chips ended with nasty food poisoning. Her team also got sick, making the trip a disaster overall. She joked that the tour was better called the “Deeply Unwell” tour.
