The American Music Awards’ 50th Anniversary Special aired Sunday night (October 6) and featured a special performance from Kane Brown.

7-time American Music Awards nominee and 5-time winner, Kane Brown, was one of the artists tapped to perform during Sunday night’s anniversary event. Brown, who has been named Favorite Country Male Artist three times (2018-2020), took the stage to “celebrate the legacy of country music” with a medley of classic and current country hits.

Ahead of his performance, Kane expressed his excitement over being invited to the special event.

“The AMAs have always been good to me. I think I won my most awards here, so I love the AMAs and I’m so glad they invited me back,” Kane said.

Brad Paisley welcomed Brown to the stage by saying, “I’m proud to say that I invited our next artist to perform with me on his very first awards show. And I’m so proud to see the superstar that he’s become.”

What are the American Music Awards?

The American Music Awards are an annual awards show created by Dick Clark in 1973 to compete with the prestigious Grammy Awards.

From the show’s inception to 2005, nominees and winners were chosen based on sales and airplay as deemed worthy by members of the music industry. In 2006, the format changed, with nominees being chosen based on sales, airplay, social media activity, and video streams. Winners are chosen by fans who can vote online.

Kane Brown wasn’t the only country star in attendance.

Brad Paisley, a two-time AMA winner, also performed during the special event. He had the honor of paying tribute to Charley Pride, the first-ever American Music Award winner for Country Male and Country Album. Paisley also performed his latest single, “Truck Still Works,” a sequel to his 2003 hit, “Mud On The Tires.”

Reba McEntire and Carrie Underwood also made special appearances to reflect on their own success on the show and what the AMAs have meant to their career.
