Keith Urban Thrills Fans With Exciting News

Keith Urban‘s Ripcord album was one of the hottest country albums of 2016, and the numbers are there to prove it. On Wednesday (April 26), Urban received some exciting news when he learned that Ripcord had been certified platinum for the sale of one million units.

This is an impressive feat, considering that Urban is only one of two country artists to have a 2016-released album go platinum. The certification also makes Urban the second country artist to ever have nine or more albums be certified platinum or higher.

It’s an extraordinary feeling,” Urban said during an interview with The Tennessean. “That’s all I can say. I love making music. I love writing. I love playing. I love all the things I get to do. For ‘Ripcord’ to have done what it’s done is really magical.

Fans have been loving everything Urban has released off of Ripcord, from the smooth “Blue Ain’t Your Color” to his peppy duet with Carrie Underwood on “The Fighter.” So as you would expect, fans have been curious to know if Urban is planning to release more music any time soon.

Finally, Urban confirmed the one thing all of his fans have been anxious to hear. He has started writing songs for a follow-up album to Ripcord, though he isn’t sure yet what direction the album will take:

I feel like a satellite dish, I was telling a co-writer the other dayMy job is just to keep the dish clear of debris and keep being willing to turn it towards the incoming, because stuff is always coming in. It’s just my job to keep the dish nice and clear. Another way to say that is to suit up and show up every day and see what happens.

While a new album may be a long way down the line, it’s still exciting to hear that Urban has started working on one! Knowing how good Ripcord was, we can’t wait to hear what he crafts for his new project.

Until then, you can just watch the dance-filled music video for “The Fighter” again and again!
