When Miranda Lambert met her now-husband Brendan McLoughlin, he was working in Times Square when she and her band, The Pistol Annies, sang for Good Morning America. McLoughlin was serving in the NYPD at the time, and often worked in Times Square.

He appeared to be a respected member of the force. In 2018, he was recognized for outstanding service after he apprehended a perpetrator at a bank robbery in progress.

McLoughlin continued to serve on the force after he and Lambert married in January 2019. The couple then split their time between her home in Tennessee and his place in NYC.

But over the summer, McLoughlin took a leave of absence from the NYPD. Department officials issued a statement to FOX News on July 19 confirming McLoughlin was on a leave of absence at the time.

Police Officer Brendan McLoughlin is on an authorized leave of absence,” the NYPD officials said.

The NYPD legally could not provide the exact reason for McLoughlin’s leave, but did say officers will ” take leave for various reasons many of which are personal.”

McLoughlin spent the rest of the year traveling with his wife on tour, and even visited her family for a sunny Christmas in Texas.

He remained on leave from the NYPD at the start of 2020, and has accompanied Lambert on her current Wildcard Tour.

After months away from the department, McLoughlin finally made the decision to leave his badge behind. FOX News confirmed with the NYPD that McLoughlin has left the force:

His current duty status is retired,” Sergeant Jessica McRorie, an NYPD DCPI spokesperson, told FOX News.

FOX News reports “multiple sources” have indicated McLoughlin appears to be working security for his wife. The publication writes about people who claim McLoughlin has been checking bags and monitoring crowds at Lambert’s concerts.

During those concerts, fans have been given the opportunity to hear music directly influenced by NYC. Lambert has said many times that the songs on Wildcard were inspired by the time she spent with McLoughlin in the city.

Hear a little of that influence in the album’s lead single, “It All Comes Out in the Wash,” which you can listen to below.

We wish McLoughlin the best now that he has left the NYPD!
