Hurricane Helene Has Left Devastation In Its Wake Across The Southeastern United States

Country music singer Miranda Lambert made a generous donation through her MuttNation Foundation to help animals affected by Hurricane Helene.

The storm landed on Florida’s Gulf Coast on Thursday (September 26) as a Category 4 hurricane. It then traveled hundreds of miles throughout the U.S., impacting several Southeastern states.

Heavy rainfall led to severe flooding in several areas, leaving residents trapped in their homes without water, electricity, food, or other crucial supplies. A late evening report from NBC News on Wednesday (October 2) states Helene’s death toll now sits at 190.

In the aftermath of the storm, people have jumped in to help by sending supplies and monetary donations to those in need. Miranda Lambert stepped up to help pets and animals impacted by the storm, donating $100,000 through her MuttNation Foundation.

The organization has since raised over $9 million “with a mission to promote the adoption of shelter pets, advance spay & neuter; and educate the public about the benefits of these actions.

MuttNation has also worked with transport partners to help relocate animals during past natural disasters. Now, they’re jumping into action to help in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.

“My heart breaks for the people and pets impacted by Hurricane Helene. In situations like this, a lot of people ask me how they can help,” Miranda said in the caption of an Instagram video she shared on October 2. “We’ve already provided nearly $100,000 to help though our @muttnation-@tractorsupply Relief for Rescues Fund.”

In the video itself, she added:

It’s a very dire situation because many of the shelters that got hit were already struggling with overcrowding. As we’ve been in contact with the shelters, we’re also hearing really heroic stories. People are risking their lives to help. It’s that type of courage that gives me hope that we’ll all get through this.”

Lambert stated that a fundraiser has been established to continue to provide help with disaster relief. You can make a donation to the MuttNation Tractor Supply Relief for Rescues fund here.
