Five years ago, Phil Robertson and his wife Kay were simple country folk, living in the same mobile home they raised their four now-adult sons in. Phil Robertson was a household name in the duck hunting world, and now, it’s a household name to the entire world, thanks to the success of their reality TV show Duck Dynasty.
The show catapulted the already successful Robertson family, who started the Duck Commander brand, into superstardom which included clothing lines, jewelry lines, merchandise with their names and faces on it, cook books, and many holiday TV specials.
Now that the show has been off the air for a couple months, local news station KNOE caught up with the Phil and his wife, Kay, at their home in West Monroe, Louisiana, where they now own over 1,000 acres, but still live in the same mobile home.
“I for one was thankful it ended,” Phil said in the interview. “There’s a lot more to doing these tv shows than most people realize.”
Kay revealed that their schedules were always so packed with filming and other events that they didn’t have much time to themselves. Now, she enjoys not having to set an alarm.
One thing hasn’t changed, though – she still cooks all the time. She is the matriarch of a growing family and always has between 2-30 people over for dinner.
Phil’s future plans are getting ready for duck season, and duck hunting. He says he has about 70 duck blinds and has to maintain them during the off-season and with all their property, it will take him a while to get them all prepared.
Kay, who won over America’s hearts with her Southern hospitality and good cooking, recalled that before the show came on, she was just “Kay”, but after Duck Dynasty, she was referred to as “Miss Kay”.
